Creative Science
Thursday 2nd Oct
Rolls Royce Learning Development Centre, Derby
This conference is for those working to make science more creative and relevant for KS2 and KS3 pupils. Supported by the Rolls Royce Science Prize and using their impressive Learning Development Centre, this event will also provide workshops across a range of topics including: science days, forensic science, work with gifted and talented, KS2 - KS3 transition, and an opportunity to hear from RR Science Prize winners.
Organisations supporting science teaching including SETpoint, the Space Centre, Science Learning Centre and SSAT will be exhibiting their services to schools.
Delegates will also get an opportunity to look around the Rolls Royce museum and learn more of their resources and activities for schools.
Event leader:
Keynote speaker: Professor Liz Sockett
Dr Liz Sockett is Senior Lecturer in Genetics at Nottingham University. She investigates questions about genes, including how some ‘good’ bacteria swim after, chase and eat other bacteria. This research could lead the way to finding new cures for illnesses caused by bacteria. She also teaches students at the University. “I was inspired to be a scientist by a combination of things - a good biology teacher at school, visiting the Natural History Museum in London, David Attenborough and
going on archaeological digs with my parents!”
